Manager Riteesh Mishra looks forward to the season ahead with an open letter to the fans
The off season for us, like many clubs has been just as busy as the season itself! With lots of changes, clubs strengthening, and no time for anyone to stand still, it has been an important off season for us as a club. But we've taken great confidence in this off season, following our performance in our debut season in the Championship where we certainly made our mark on the league. Every effort is being made by everyone at the club to continue our progression. That, coupled with our main men’s club sealing promotion into the Championship is strengthening our brand as a club which we have felt over the off season, with the caliber of players and sponsors engaging with us.
The off season to be honest is one of the hardest periods of the year, and certainly for me this has been a very challenging one. We've had some changes both with players and staff, but we've worked harder than ever before to make sure we are building on everything that has been put in place here over the past few years. After a few tough weeks, I can't wait now to get back and get back to the real work, which is out there on the grass.
I'm really pleased with how the squad is shaping up right now. We've brought some really good, hungry players in who are joining us for the right reasons, and more importantly a lot of our core squad who have been with us through our journey are here. That's the most important thing for me. We have been on a journey and our story continues and I'm pleased we've got a lot of those who've been at the core of that here to continue on helping me improve the club.
Of course like every club that is doing well your players get attention from elsewhere. We have a few players moving on, which is part of the game. But I think we still have one or two new players on the horizon to join, and if we can get them over the line, I think we'll be in fantastic shape.
Our crowd saw a 131% increase last season compared to previous seasons. We want this percentage to rise even more. The fantastic part of the women’s world cup being this summer is that it’s opened the eyes to women’s football for a lot of sports fans. 6.1 million watched the Lionesses opening game which shows there is an audience for women’s football.
If we can get as many fans as possible next season supporting us at The Oakwood then we stand a very good chance of growing the women’s game even more. The work the players do every week which often goes unseen, merits what they should receive on Sunday’s when playing and they deserve to be playing in front of a large crowd for every game.
Finally we have announced this week some of our pre-season friendlies which includes a testimonial match for Kim Dixson. Kim has been an outstanding player, coach and role model and no one deserves a testimonial more than her for her loyalty to the club. We ask for as many fans as possible to come down on July 31st to support not only us but to say thank you for what Kim Dixson has done for the club and will be doing in the future as her journey with Charlton Athletic Women is by no means finished yet.
Thank you for your support
