An invite from Millwall saw the First Team get some valuable playing time on Sunday in a hastily arranged training match.
With the FA Cup tie versus Bradford City postponed for the second time and little chance to train over the last two weeks Manager Paul Mortimer was grateful to get a call from Lionesses boss Alberto Kurti offering the First Team the chance of a friendly training match on the 4G pitch at the Lionesses Training Ground.
The 90 minute run out proved beneficial to both teams with important league and cup matches coming up and the Lionesses line-up included some familiar faces in former Addicks Channel Yardley, Francesca Ali, Ellie Manning and Jenny Smith plus Ciara Sherwood who is currently on loan to the Lionesses. Yardley pulled off a number of fine saves during the game whilst Lionesses skipper Dionne Lennon was commanding in the heart of the defence. Emma Beckett opened the scoring for the Addicks against her former club after 5 minutes with a low shot from the edge of the area. Shortly after left-back Stef Simmons cut in from the left flank to fire home from a tight angle. On half an hour a Simmons free-kick was met at the far post by Kit Graham for the Addicks third goal. Five minutes later Fliss Gibbons added to the score with a low powerful drive from 12 yards. Shortly before the break Graham added her second with a powerful shot into the roof of the net. Although the Addicks continued to control the game there were no further goals after the break.
