In their final pre-season friendly fixture before next week`s league opener at home to Nottingham Forest the Addicks travelled to Chatham Town, the new home of the Gills. Included in the Gillingham team were former Addicks Katie Hardaker & Emma Tune who made the transfer down the A2 during the summer. The Addicks started strongly with Gemma Bryan forcing the Gills keeper to save with her feet. After 10 minutes a high dipping ball into the box from from Sinead Boyer was met by Fliss Gibbons whose header crashed against the post before being cleared. From Emma Beckett`s corner Harley Bennett rose unchallenged to powerfully head home. Good play between Boyer and Ellie Stenning resulted in a cross which Bryan headed straight at the keeper. The Addicks continued to control most of the play and after 34 minutes extended their lead with an almost identical goal as Bennett headed home another Beckett corner. On 43 minutes Charlton added a third following neat play down the left flank; Bryan latched on to Gibbons ball into the area and turned to fire home from 6 yards. A quick break from the Gills then saw a great crossfield ball pick out Bryony Smith who crashed home a long range effort to pull a goal back in the final action of the half. A rasping 30 yard strike from Beckett early in the second half brought a superb save from the Gills keeper. A strong run and cross from Bryan saw the Gills keeper smother the ball well as Kim Dixson closed in. An effort late in the game saw the home keeper save a header from Ellie Bailes. |
