Addickted to Fitness

Charlton Athletic women's team captain and England international Casey Stoney and her fitness team deliver a range of tailor-made fitness packages to teenage girls and women of all ages - and all abilities - to advocate the benefit of fitness and healthy lifestyles.

Participants receive a certificate on completion of each level and suitable candidates can progress to take the Level 1 Certificate in Developing Personal Health and Fitness.

The overall purpose is to deliver fitness packages to teenage girls and women of all ages, to advocate the benefit of fitness and healthy lifestyles both as an end in itself and as a means to other ends.

The specific objectives are to:-

• To promote and encourage active and healthy lifestyles
• To develop and deliver a tailor made fitness package to females of abilities in the local area.
• To remove barriers to participation among those on low incomes and ethnic minority groups.
• To increase participation
• To provide employment for suitably qualified Charlton Athletic women's team players, that is compatible with their commitment to elite level participation.

Through research we have found that many women and young girls feel intimidated by gyms, the instructors and the equipment in them. Suitably qualified women's team players such as Casey Stoney, will deliver fitness sessions where there are already groups gathered, at schools, community and youth clubs, and suitable open spaces in the local area.

Having developed a number of fitness trainers and football coaches through our academy programme 'Addickted to Fitness' provides employment that is compatible with the demands of both international and national league competition.

Addickted to Fitness can be delivered along side the Level 1 Certificate in Developing Personal Health and Fitness.
